Emerging Contaminants Control

Our research group centers on the fate, effects, control and treatment of emerging contaminants in natural and engineered systems. We plan to develop robust analysis methods, determine reaction rate constants and identify reaction intermediates and byproducts, to clarify reaction mechanisms and establish sound water quality models. We aim to predict the environmental behaviors of these emerging contaminants in natural and engineered systems and develop control and treatment technologies as well.

 Our research group centers on the fate, effects, control and treatment of emerging contaminants in natural and engineered systems. The emerging contaminants mainly include antibiotics, endocrine disrupting chemicals, algal toxins, disinfection byproducts, and pesticides. These contaminants, though present in the environment with a relatively low concentration, pose a serious threat to the health of human and wildlife. As a consequence, their emergence in our environment is attracting more and more attention from environmental researchers worldwide. We plan to develop robust analysis methods, determine reaction rate constants and identify reaction intermediates and byproducts, to clarify reaction mechanisms and establish sound water quality models. We aim to predict the environmental behaviors of these emerging contaminants in natural and engineered systems and develop control and treatment technologies as well. Our other research interests cover drinking water disinfection, aquaria seawater disinfection and reuse, advanced chemical oxidation processes, water distribution system leakage control, super-filtration and nano-filtration membrane technology, river pollution control and electrochemical technologies for environmental remediation. Our research group is currently taking charge of or participating in several state projects funded by the Natural Science Foundation and the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.

● Key technologies for antibiotics and heavy metal control in wastewater discharged from concentrated animal feed operations.

● Ozonation and advanced chemical oxidation process.

● Drinking water disinfection, aquaria seawater disinfection and reuse.

● Water distribution system leakage control.

● Super-filtration and nano-filtration membrane technology.

● River pollution control.
