Environmental Microbiological Technology

Biology, chemistry, surface science, environmental engineering and computer numerical technologies constitute the backbone of the research work. Our research efforts include: (1) analysis of microbial communities and functions in bioreactors and other systems; (2) development of biological technologies for the removal of pollutants from water; (3) models for water environment and water treatment systems; (4) solutions for water problems, especially in water supply, oil and petrochemical industries.

Research Interests

● Water supply: algal bloom modeling, identification of odorous compounds and hazardous microorganism; advanced technologies.

● Environmental behaviors of chemicals: nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEOs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, antibiotics and antibiotics resistant bacteria.

● Microbial communities and functions: analysis of microbial communities and functions and their relationship; functions of yeast and archaebacteria and their application.

● Industrial application: Oil-chemistry environmental problems, especially oil-water separation, oily sludge treatment, removal of refractory compounds.

● Modelling: application of ASM, algal bloom model.
